After 20 years of continuous research into water, I have sought to visualise and interpret it through contemporary forms of expression, in order to inspire a love of the sea and water in the public and the younger generations.

A NEW COSMOGONY OF WATER

The exhibition is organised into
8 main themes.

  • 1 | THE INFINITELY INVISIBLE

Questions about the origin of the oceans and water, about that which we cannot perceive with our senses and which instead becomes the invisible driving force behind our survival and that of an entire ecosystem.

  • 2 | THE ORIGIN OF LIFE

Questions about the origin of the oceans and water, about what we cannot perceive with our senses yet which becomes the invisible driving force underpinning our survival and that of an entire ecosystem.

  • 3 | BECOMING A MERMAID

A psychological transformation that leads to a plunge into the depths of the unconscious, where human figures merge with the liquid element. A long period of exploration to understand that the sirens’ call is at times an encounter with the archetype of the feminine (the Great Mother) and at other times a quest to overcome inner barriers.

  • 4 | TRAVELLING THROUGH THE ANTHROPOCENE

The devastating impact of humankind on the marine ecosystem. Here, La Spada courageously tackles the issue of plastic pollution, creating images of extraordinary beauty and tragedy in which plastic bags and bottles become ‘the new species’ of our seas.

  • 5 | MIGRATION

Migration in the Mediterranean, through a symbolic lens, is not merely a physical movement of bodies but an ancestral migration.

  • 6 | THE LANGUAGE OF WATER

An indecipherable code. Just as every wave carries information, so too do the waves of the sea do so constantly. We are not yet able to decipher the messages they send.

  • 7 | WATER MEMORY

Water react to sound. After meeting Masaro Emoto I decided to do this work.

  • 8 | PURE WATER

A return to the source, to the purity of thought, through a collection of uncontaminated waters from around the world and a collective prayer to preserve water – but above all our humanity, understood as the truest and highest essence..
